400% Speed Improvement
There are several
factors that effect BillQuick's speed. It might be the amount of
memory you have in a PC, the speed of your network or congestion
on your network.
By far,
the most common factor is the
number of people accessing your company database and the amount
of data in it.
Why SQL
Express and BillQuick?
When BillQuick is
combined with SQL Express
and Studio Manager (optional),
both
free from Microsoft,
you gain solid benefits:
-
Robust
performance in a multi-user
environment
-
Fast
processing
-
Automatic
backup (with Studio Manager)
-
Faster and
automatic recovery of your
database (in case of a
network problem)
-
Intelligent
sharing of connection
resources
When
upsizing to SQL, BillQuick
Customers report 100% to 500%
speed improvements.
Companies with 10, 15 or 20
users say "It came
up instantly. I blinked once or
twice and it was there. I didn't
have to wait."
BQE Software
experienced the same speed
improvements when we changed the database
backend for our CRM system from
Microsoft Access (80
megabytes in size) to SQL. We
measured a 400% speed
improvement. A customer
relationship record in Access
that took seconds to display now
pops up in less than a second.
The key is how
the MS Access and MS SQL Express
databases work. When BillQuick
requests information from your network
server, MS Access
must request the
entire list of projects or invoices,
then filter and sort them on
your PC. That can be a lot of
data. With MS SQL Express, BillQuick sends a more
sophisticated request and the
database system sends back only the filtered data.
That's less processing time
on your PC and less data moving across
your local area network,
resulting in faster processing.
Also, SQL Express' more
sophisticated features, such as advanced data caching,
reduces the time it takes to
retrieve data.
Other benefits
like automatic backup, automatic
recovery and smart connections
are a little technical, but the
key is they are intelligent and
automatic.
Who Should Use
SQL Express
SQL
Express delivers the most
benefits when you have:
-
5 or more
BillQuick Users
-
A BillQuick
Standard Database (Microsoft
Access with an .mdb file
extension) larger than 25
megabytes
If one or both
situations apply to you, we
recommend upsizing your
BillQuick company database to
SQL Express (see

BillQuick below).
